Police Arrest Suspect In North Austin Bank Robbery

Robbery at Wells Fargo bank branch along 13700 block of Research Boulevard is the second such heist in as many days, police said.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police arrested a man suspected of having robbed a Northwest Austin bank Saturday morning — the second such heist in as many days.

Just before 10:20 a.m., police were called to the Wells Fargo bank branch along the 13700 block of Research Boulevard near Lake Creek Parkway, officials said. The suspect is said to have passed a note to a teller demanding money before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash, a police officer told reporters.

Officers quickly made the scene, capturing the suspect as he exited the bank building, according to the police account. The suspect was promptly apprehended and booked into the Travis County Jail.

Citing an ongoing investigation related to another bank robbery that occurred on Friday, police declined to release the suspect's name. A Chase bank branch in the 12800 block of Research Boulevard — a mere mile from Saturday's heist — was hit on Friday. The suspect in that case also passed a note to a teller before fleeing the scene, but police said it's yet unclear if the same person is responsible for both robberies.

The latest bank robbery marked the 20th such incident in Austin so far this year. A police spokesman told reporters the city typically sees some between 20 to 25 such crimes each year.
