Police ID, Charge North Austin Shooting Rampage Suspect

Rolando Martinez, 25, is accused of injuring four, including a seven-year-old child, in random gunfire that began outside a nightclub.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police have identified the suspect in a North Austin shooting rampage that left three adults and a child injured this past Saturday.

Police responded to North Austin early Saturday on Nov. 4, finding three victims of gunshot wounds. A fourth victim was subsequently located and rushed to the hospital like the others for treatment of their injuries. A 7-year-old girl traveling in a car with her family was among those injured in the random gunfire.

The gunfire was first reported to have emanated from the El Nocturno nightclub at 7601 N. Lamar Blvd. just south of Anderson Lane before the suspect is alleged to have fired at random targets elsewhere throughout North Austin.

According to the affidavit, Martinez ran from his car after spotting a state trooper. He was eventually apprehended and booked into the Travis County Jail. A native of Mexico, Martinez is also under a so-called detainer requested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials — a hold placed on suspects facing deportation implemented to allow ICE officials enough time to arrive to effect their arrest.

But it's unclear if Martinez is actually undocumented. A prior 2016 conviction for assaulting an officer reported by the newspaper didn't lead to deportation proceedings.

Martinez was booked into the Travis County Jail on seven separate counts, including four charges of aggravated assault; one for injury to a child; and multiple traffic offenses. His bail was set at $1 million. A booking photo was unavailable.
