Police ID Man Killed In 2-Car North Austin Wreck
Barkat Umatia, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene after two-car wreck at U.S. 183 and Payton Gin Road in early December 2018.

NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Thursday identified the motorist killed in a two-car collision in early December.
The incident dates to Dec. 4 at around 8:40 p.m. at U.S. 183 and Payton Gin Road, where a 2004 Honda sedan was traveling northbound on the latter street from a stop. Meanwhile, a2006 Mercedes sedan was traveling westbound on the service road of U.S. 183. The two cars crashed at the intersection, with the driver of the Honda — which sustained damage to its right side — pronounced dead at the scene.
Barkat Umatia, 54, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police continue to investigate the case, and ask anyone with information to call detectives at (512) 974-6935. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.
Police noted the incident marked Austin’s 72nd fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in 73 fatalities this year. At the comparable time period for 2017, there were 67 fatal traffic crashes and 72 traffic fatalities, police added.
