Police ID Man Killed In 2-Car Wreck In North Austin

Christian Barrios, 21, was killed along 11100 block of Interstate 35 on Sunday when his car was hit head-on by another vehicle.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the man killed in a two-vehicle collision along north Interstate 35 over the weekend.

The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, May 12, along the 11100 block of North Interstate 35. The preliminary investigation shows a 2007 GMC Yukon was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-35 when it was involved in a head-on crash with another vehicle, a 2018 white Hyundai Elantra that struck the Yukon.

The driver of the Elentra, Christian Barrios, 21, died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Yukon were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both occupants of the Yukon were wearing seat belts, police noted. It's unclear if the driver of the Yukon faces any charges as a result of the wreck.

The wreck marked Austin’s 27th fatal traffic crash of 2019, police said, resulting in 28 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018,police added, there were 22 fatal traffic crashes and 23 traffic fatalities.
