Police ID Man Shot Dead In North Austin Late December

Police still don't know who killed Eric Charles Allen, 26, and are asking the public to contact them if they have information on shooting.

NORTH AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police on Wednesday identified the man shot dead in a weekend shooting in North Austin two days before Christmas.

Police on Dec. 23 responded to the reported shooting just past 12:30 p.m. at 12507 Rampart St. There, they found Eric Charles Allen, 26, mortally wounded. The Travis County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as having come from a gunshot wound in what was deemed a homicide, police said in a press advisory.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Allen’s death. To that end, detectives ask anyone with any information about the incident to call the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588, Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS, text "Tip 103" + details to CRIMES or use the new Crime Stoppers App or email APD Homicide at homcide.apd@austintexas.gov. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.

Police noted the death was the city's 34th murder in 2018.
