Police ID Man Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver In North Austin

Richard Stacy Stader, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene while police search for driver after having located his vehicle.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the pedestrian who was killed after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in North Austin earlier this week.

On Monday at around 9:40 p.m., police responded to the 1500 block of Wells Branch Parkway after a report of a struck pedestrian. According to a preliminary investigation, a blue Honda Accord was traveling westbound along Wells Branch Parkway at the Interstate 35 southbound service road when a pedestrian crossed north against the traffic signal and struck.

The pedestrian, Richard Stacy Stader, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver immediately fled the scene. The vehicle was located later, but the search for the driver continues, police said.

The incident marked Austin’s 43rd fatal traffic crash and the 45th fatality of 2017. At this time in 2016, there were 47 fatal traffic crashes and 47 traffic fatalities.
