Police ID Motorist Who Died After Hitting The Back Of A Garbage Truck In North Austin

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police recently identified the person killed last week after a traffic accident in North Austin.

Spencer Salomon Monroe, 21, died after driving into the back of a garbage truck just after 3 a.m. on Oct. 26. A preliminary police invesgiation shows that a the silver 2oo1 Honda Civic Monroe was in was traveling eastbound in the 1400 block of West Koenig Lane when a 2014 Mack garbage truck backed into the street. Monroe, who was driving the Civic, was unable to avoid the truck and hit the rear portion of the larger vehicle.

Monroe was pronounced dead at the scene.

The traffic accident yielded the city's 58th fatal traffic crash and 59th fatality so far this year. At the same point last year, there were 82 traffic fatalities in Austin, police said.
