Police ID Pedestrian Killed After Being Hit By Car In North Austin

Elton Lynn Medford, 63, was struck by a car as he tried crossing a street late Sunday night.

North Austin, TX -- Police on Tuesday identified the man killed after being struck by a car while walking across the street Sunday night.

The victim was identified as Elton Lynn Medford, 63. Police said in a press advisory that Medford died after being struck by a 2010 Kia Forte in the 8000 block of Burnet Road on July 3 at about 10:30 p.m.

Police said the pedestrian was in the outside lane fronting 8007 Burnet Rd., and was not in the crosswalk at the time of the incident. Medics transported Medford to University Medical Center Brackenridge for treatment, but he later would succumb to his injuries while hospitalized.

Police noted the driver who struck Medford stayed at the scene while police were en route, but gave no indication whether or not the unidentified driver would be charged.

Medford's death marks the city's 32nd traffic death so far this year. Last year, the number of traffic-related incidents -- many involving pedestrians -- topped 100, breaking previous records.
