Police ID Pedestrian Struck, Killed In North Austin
Afshin Sustaita, 33, was hit by a car as he attempted to cross Interstate 35 on foot early Friday morning.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Friday identified the pedestrian who died two days before while trying to cross across Interstate 35.
The incident occurred along the 8900 block of South I-35 at around 1:15 a.m. A preliminary investigation shows Afshin Sustaita, 33, attempted to cross eastbound on foot when he was struck by a 2009 Nissan Altima travelling northbound in the outside lane of traffic.
Sustaita was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident marked Austin’s 17th fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in eighteen fatalities this year. At this time last year, there were 21 fatal traffic crashes and 23 traffic fatalities, police said.
