Police ID Pedestrian Who Died After Being Run Over When He Fell Crossing North Austin Street

Ironically, another driver stopped his car to shield victim from oncoming traffic, only to have another driver go around and run him over.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Monday identified a pedestrian who was killed earlier this month in North Austin.

David Hanner, 57, was killed Nov. 6 after a car ran over him when he fell into the roadway, police said in a press release. According to a preliminary investigation, Hanner was crossing the street at 800 Wagon Trail after 8:30 p.m. when he fell.

A passing motorist who saw Hanner fall stopped his vehicle in an attempt to block other cars from hitting the fallen pedestrian, but another motorist driving a silver 2001 Ford Explorer — seeing the stopped vehicle impeding the path — drove around the parked car, unwittingly running over the pedestrian in the road the other driver was trying to shield.
