Police ID Pedestrian Who Was Killed While Trying To Cross Highway In North Austin

Kenyae Monique Dixon, 25, managed to avoid one car while crossing I-35, but was struck by another vehicle and died on the scene.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Tuesday identified the pedestrian who was killed in North Austin last week after being struck by a car while trying to cross across a portion of Interstate 35.

According to a police preliminary investigation, a 2006 red Kia was traveling northbound in the left lane of the 8300 block of North I-35 at a high rate of speed on Aug. 3. The motorist approached a pedestrian running across the highway from east to west.

The pedestrian, Kenyae Monique Dixon, 25, was nearly struck by another vehicle before being struck by the Kia, police said. The driver immediately stopped after the impact, but the young woman was pronounced dead at the scene at roughly 9:37 p.m.

The incident marked Austin’s 36th fatal traffic crash and the 38th fatality of 2017, police said. At this time in 2016, there were 39 fatal traffic crashes and 39 traffic fatalities, officials added.
