Police ID Victim, Suspect In Thanksgiving Day Austin Shooting

Deadly shooting along 9600 block of North Lamar Boulevard in November left man critically injured before later succumbing to his wounds.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police have released more details into a fatal shooting in late November, identifying both the victim and suspect in a press advisory.

The incident at 9616 N. Lamar Boulevard dates to Nov. 23. Police responded to the scene at about 11:40 p.m. that initially was believed to be in the 9700 block of the road. Once arriving at the correct location, police learned two shooting victims had been transported to hospitals by private vehicles. The shooting victims were first taken to North Austin Medical Center before being airlifted to Round Rock Hospital via STARflight for surgery, police said.

While the victim, identified as Samuel Charlez, 23, was in critical condition, police were able to ascertain the suspect was Hector Guajardo-Garcia, 32, according to a press advisory. The victim succumbed to his wounds on Dec. 6 at around 7:10 p.m., and a later autopsy determined his death to have been caused by gunshot trauma, police said in a press advisory.

Police have ruled the cause of death as homicide following a Dec. 7 autopsy.
