Police ID Wheelchair-Bound Man Killed In Traffic Fatality
Donald Norton, 65, was struck as he tried crossing North Lamar Boulevard in his motorized wheelchair.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police on Wednesday released the identity of a wheelchair-bound man who was crossing a north Austin street last month, only to be hit by a car and dying of his injuries days later.
Police identified the dead man as Donald Norton, 65. He was struck by a car on Jan. 30 at the 12300 block of North Lamar Boulevard at around 8 p.m., dying of his injuries four days later.
A preliminary investigation indicates that a silver Oldsmobile Alero was traveling northbound on Lamar when the pedestrian entered his land of traffic in his motorized wheelchair.

The driver attempted to stop, but was unable to do so before striking Norton. The driver stayed at the scene before emergency crews transported the injured man to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Norton died four days later.

Police continue to investigate the case, and ask for anyone with information to call the APD Vehicular Homicide unit at (512) 974-5789.
The death represented the fourth traffic fatality in Austin.
