Police Seek Culprit Who Left Dying Dog In Wire Crate Along North Austin Street

Someone called to report a dead dog inside a wire crate, but police found the small animal still breathing.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police are seeking help from the public in locating a suspect in an animal cruelty case discovered Wednesday involving a pair of dogs subjected to abuse.

On Nov. 2, Austin responded to the 600 block of West Croslin Street at the intersection with Guadalupe Street at about 8:25 a.m. after receiving a report about a deceased dog in a crate. Once there, police found a barely breathing dog inside the wire crate located in the street on the south curb line. The small, black and brown dog was lying on its side inside the crate, but was still breathing.

The dog is a small female Boxer or Boston terrier mix of about one year old. The dog was wearing a brown collar with rhinestone studs, and is recovering although stil in critical condition.

Police urge anyone with information about who may have abandoned the dogs on the side of the road or recognize the dog to call the animal cruelty tip line at 512-978-0523. Tips also can be submitted by downloading the Austin Police Department mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.
