Police Seek Hit-And-Run Driver In North Austin Traffic Fatality

Incident occurred on Sunday, July 28, just after 2:30 a.m. along the 8700 block of Cameron Road, police said.

AUSTIN, TX — Police on Friday asked for the public's help in locating a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in North Austin before leaving the scene.

The incident occurred on Sunday, July 28, just after 2:30 a.m. along the 8700 block of Cameron Road. It was there that Xavier Tunsun, 28, exited a 2016 Chrysler 300 while it was traveling northbound on Cameron Road, police described. An unknown vehicle then struck Tunsun before leaving the scene.

Police have a limited description of the vehicle that hit Tunsun, describing it as possibly gold or tan with dark wheels and no hubcaps. The driver, if found, faces a charge of failure to stop and render aid — a 2nd degree felony.

The incident marked the 44th fatal traffic crash in Austin so far this year, resulting in 45 fatalities this year. At this time in 2018, police added, there were 37 fatal traffic crashes and 38 traffic fatalities.
