Police Seek Suspect In North Austin Store Robbery (Video)

Surveillance camera footage released in the hopes of finding man accused of holding up cell phone store while armed with a weapon.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police seek help from the public in identifying an armed man accused of robbing a cellular phone store on Wednesday.

The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. on the northbound service road at 11139 North Interstate 35. Police said the suspect entered the Metro PCS store located there before approaching the sales counter while displaying a weapon and demanding valuables. The suspect then fled on a dark-colored bicycle with thin tires, police said.

Surveillance camera footage of the incident was released in the hopes someone might recognize the suspect and alert police. He's described as a goat-sporting Caucasian man in his late 30s to early 40s standing at five feet, nine inches in height with a thin build. At the time of the incident, he wore a bright green shirt, camouflage pants and a black baseball cap with a white log. The suspect with tattoos on both forearms carried a large black backpack at the time of the incident.

Police gave a press briefing on the matter on Thursday afternoon in providing more details. In his update, Officer Andrew Wunderlich declined to specify the type of weapon used in the robbery "...to protect the integrity of the investigation." The officer also declined to specify the goods taken in the holdup.

Those with information are urged to call detectives at (512) 974-5270 or text "Tip 103" and a message to police to CRIMES. Tipsters also can communicate with police via the Crime Stoppers App. Moreover, tips can be submitted by downloading APD’s mobile app, Austin PD, free on iPhone and Android.
