U.S. 183A Northbound Reopened After Fatal Car Collision (Updated)
Police had closed toll road between Lakeline and Avery Ranch boulevards after crash that claimed a woman's life on Thursday.

Update: Northbound lanes of the U.S. 183A toll road were reopened Thursday evening after a major collision prompted its closure, according to Austin police.
The portion of roadway was closed for about three hours to accommodate a police investigation into a crash that left a woman in her 30s critically injured and a man in his 60s slightly hurt. The woman later died after being transported to St. David's Round Rock Medical Canter, according to police.

Police previously issued a plea for motorists to avoid the area right before the Avery Ranch Boulevard exit, following up at around 6:30 p.m. to alert drivers the road was opened up to traffic again.

Despite the reopening of the highway stretch, police advised traffic would still likely be heavy between the Lake Creek/Avery Ranch corridor. The crash occurred during one of the busiest travel days of the year, Thanksgiving Day.
It's unclear what may have caused the collision. Police said via Twitter they would not stage a press briefing on the incident.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — A stretch of highway at the U.S. 183 toll road was closed on Thursday afternoon following a major traffic collision that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.
Law enforcement officials said via Twitter that northbound U.S. 183A, just before the Avery Ranch Boulevard exit, is closed to accommodate a police investigation. Northbound travelers are urged to find an earlier exit to reach their destinations, and avoid the area between Lakeline Boulevard and Avery Ranch altogether.
According to Austin-Travis County EMS medics, the collision along the 14600 block of North U.S. 183A that occurred around 3:30 p.m. left a woman in her 30s with critical, life-threatening injuries. A man in his 60s also was injured, sustaining minor injuries not deemed to be life-threatening.
Both patients were rushed to St. David's Round Rock Medical Center. U.S. 183 is an 11-mile toll road extending northward from RM 620 through Cedar Park and Leander in Williamson County
