Rabbit Killing Leads To North Austin Arrest

AUSTIN, TX — A man was arrested on animal cruelty charges after violently throwing his girlfriend's pet rabbit across their North Austin apartment, according to a published report.

Citing court documents, the Austin American-Statesman reported the incident occurred at around 6:20 p.m. on Saturday at the Hunt Club Apartments along the 3100 block of Shoreline Drive. James Nelson, 20, got into a heated argument with his girlfriend that culminated with him grabbing the animal and launching it across the room, killing it in the process, the newspaper reported.

The man was arrested before being booked into the Travis County Jail on a charge of cruelty to non-livestock animals, which is a third-degree felony. His bond was set at $15,000, according to Travis County Jail records. A booking photo was unavailable.
