Coronavirus: Travis County Illness Count Now 430, With 4th Death

AUSTIN, TX — The number of coronavirus cases in Travis County grew to 430 on Friday with a fourth fatality blamed on the respiratory illness recorded, according to health officials.

Austin Public Health officials updated the count — a jump of 79 new cases from the 351-patient count recorded the day before in the biggest single-day increase since records have been kept in mid-March.

Although a fourth fatality from the respiratory ailment also was recorded, specifics on the age and gender of the patient were not disclosed. The illness is said to be transmitted via respiratory droplets emitted by infected people through coughing or sneezing, although recent theories posit the virus is able to sustain itself in the air longer than once thought and transmitted easier through mere speech. Evidence also has shown the COVID-19 virus causing illness also can be spread from asymptomatic carriers even while not experieincing symptoms.
