Good morning, neighbors! It's me again, Gabriela Couvillion, your host of the North Austin-Pflugerville Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and milder. High: 66 Low: 43.

Here are the top stories in North Austin-Pflugerville today:

  1. On Thursday, Feb. 17, "the Pflugerville school board... unanimously approved staff compensation for those affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the recent extreme weather conditions." The compensation is for all winter-weather related staff absences due to school closures on Thursday, Feb. 3 and Friday, Feb. 4, and school closures related to COVID-19 on Friday, Jan. 21 and Monday, Jan. 24. Maggie Fulton, a Pflugerville pre-K assistant said, "If we didn't get paid for those four days, it would be a hardship for many of the hourly employees who are barely making ends meet." Although the amounts of payments will be determined later, "the next steps for school administrators include identifying employee absences to determine the amount of money needed to compensate them." 2. San Antonio-based Las Palapas is heading to North Austin and although it's not clear yet when it will open, "filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation show locations near Shavano Park, Lake Travis in Austin." The Texas taco eatery has been in existence since 1981, and they are popular for "go-to for tacos and other Tex-Mex eats" places.
