Search For Woman Who Fled North Austin Wreck Continues

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Williamson County Sheriff's Office officials continue to search for a possibly homeless woman who walked away from the scene of an weekend rollover accident before arrival of police, Patch has learned.

Patricia Gutierrez, the public information officer for the sheriff's office, said the woman has been identified as Elizabeth Kelsey Thelen, The woman was inside a vehicle that flipped over after an 11 a.m. Saturday crash that occurred in the Rattan Creek subdivision near McNeil Drive and Parmer Lane. The wreck occurred along the 7600 block of Windrush Drive, the spokeswoman said.

Surveillance camera footage showed the woman fleeing the scene of the crash. A male victim also tried to flee on foot before collapsing at the scene, the spokeswoman told Patch in a telephone interview The male victim is currently undergoing medical treatment, she added.

Initial media reports indicated the woman was wearing a prom-like dress, but Gutierrez said that categorization has since been abandoned after more careful review of surveillance camera footage. The woman sought is now believed to be homeless, and was carrying a large tote bag as she fled the scene of the wreck, Gutierrez told Patch.

Law enforcement officials have stressed the reason for their search is to ensure the woman is okay after the wreck or in need of medical attention. The sheriff's office released an image of Thelen via Twitter, and asks anyone recognizing her to call 911.

No further details were available. Gutierrez said the Texas Department of Public Safety has since taken over the investigation.
