Sereniah Breland Tapped As Pflugerville City Manager

She served as city manager of Alvin since 2015 and held previous roles in Guthrie, Goliad, Sugar Land, Denton and Greenville.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — City council members on Tuesday tapped Sereniah Breland as the sole finalist for the city manager position, and unanimously voted to appoint her to the role.

“I am pleased to announce our selection of Ms. Sereniah Breland to the Pflugerville city manager position, as she brings more than 15 years of government experience and shares the vision of the council to balance our fast-paced growth while maintaining quality of life,” Mayor Victor Gonzales said in a prepared statement. “Her energy and flexibility in municipal government coupled with expertise in managing culture and facilitating long-range planning complement the direction Pflugerville is headed.”

Among Breland’s accomplishments during her years of service to local government include facilitating long-range planning efforts with her council members, implementing capital improvement programs, and increasing internal professional organizational culture, city officials noted in a press advisory.

“Here in Pflugerville, becoming an integral part of the community is a top priority of mine along with serving alongside the City Council and partnering with staff to achieve goals for the betterment of the city,” Breland said in a prepared statement. “I'm thrilled to have an opportunity to be of service to such apfantastic and vibrant community.”

Breland obtained a master’s degree in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Dallas and a bachelor of business administration degree from Stephen F. Austin State University. She served as the city manager of Alvin, Texas, since 2015 and held previous roles with the cities of Guthrie, Goliad, Sugar Land, Denton and Greenville.

Breland’s involvement includes the At-Large Member on the Board of Executives for Texas City Management Association (TCMA) as elected by her peers, according to a city-provided biography. In service to her colleagues, she also facilitates the TCMA Ethics Training for fellow members, serves on the Membership Board and has held various positions previously with the International City Management Association, Oklahoma Municipal League, and City Management Association of Oklahoma. The City of Pflugerville has worked with Strategic Government Resources (SGR) to conduct the city manager search, according to officials. Breland will officially begin in her new role at Pflugerville on Aug. 13.
