Sheet Metal Maker's Expansion Creating 200 Pflugerville Jobs

Cortec Precision Sheetmetal Inc. was lured with tax incentives to build a 120,000-square-foot plant at 130 Commerce Center business park.

PFLUGERVGILLE, TX -- A sheet metal manufacturer's expansion into Pflugerville will create 200 local jobs and $20 million in future tax revenue, according to city officials.

Cortec Precision Sheetmetal Inc. -- a California-based firm with a plant in Round Rock -- is constructing a 120,000-square=foot facility at the 130 Commerce Center business park, the Austin American-Statesman reported. The company will occupy half the building and lease the rest out.

The Pflugerville Community Develpment Corp. lured the expansion through the inducement of a 50 percent property tax rebate for four years, valued at $228,000. A quasi-governmental agency that helps the city lure industry, the PCDC sold the property to Cortec for $1.4 million.

Cortec President Richard Corrales is already familiar with Pflugerville, having moved to the city in 2007. He cited the city's welcoming business climate and the existence of the 167-acre business park at East Pecan Street and Texas 130 as major considerations for the company's expansion.

“I felt that a lot of business would be coming to Pflugerville … and it doesn’t hurt being next to them,” he said.
