Slavic Mardi Gras Comes To Austin To Celebrate Spring's Arrival
Maslenitsa, an Easter Slavic holiday, celebrates the beginning of Spring with festivities featuring music, food, and fun for the family.
AUSTIN, TX -- The Flying Balalaika Brothers to host Maslenitsa - Slavic Mardi Gras on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 2 PM - 9 PM. Maslenitsa is an Eastern Slavic holiday, that among other things, celebrates the end of Winter with festivities and fun. All are invited to come enjoy the rich cultural offerings of this Slavic holiday, where there will be music, food, colorful costumes parade, games, and more. This event is FREE and family-friendly.
Attendees will learn about what Maslenitsa represents to the culture and will delight with the traditional performances to be held. Blini (pancakes), a Maslenitsa delicacy, topped with caviar, mushrooms, jam, sour cream, and butter, will be available to try as well as other delicious food from the region.
In addition, there will be vendors offering original art, unique gifts, Slavic artifacts souvenirs, jewelry, handmade treasures, and much more. There will also be body painting, live music, dance and carnival games! Learn traditional Russian Line dance Kadrille and ritual circle dance Khorovod. Theater, puppets, singing, and fireworks are all a part of the Maslenitsa celebrations.
