Smoke Plumes At NW Austin School Prompt Evacuation
Fire crews responded to reports of light smoke emanating from Summit Elementary School before determining it came form faulty HVAC unit.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Light smoke emanating from the Summit Elementary School cafeteria on Tuesday prompted a brief evacuation of the campus, fire officials said.
Fire crews were dispatched to the school at 12207 Brigadoon Lane near West Parmer Lane an Amherst Drive in Northwest Austin just before noon amid reports of smoke. Officials from Austin Energy also descended to the scene after it was determined the smoke originated from a heating/air conditioning system, officials said.
About a half-hour after the initial reports, students were allowed back to their classes after the electrical issue was resolved.
