Suspect Leads Pflugerville Police On 40-Mile High Speed Chase
The suspect was initially discovered sleeping in his car at 1 a.m. and then sped off after being awakened by a police officer.

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas — A crazy, high-speed chase spanning through counties is not something you see every day in Pflugerville. Yet that's precisely what happened this week.
It all began quietly enough on Thursday at about 1 a.m. when the suspect was found sleeping inside his car. A city ordinance prohibits such in-vehicle slumber, prompting a police officer to make contact with the driver.
After the car's license plates came back as a "BOLO" -- a "be on the lookout" notice in the police nomenclature -- is when all hell broke loose.

The BOLO was later found to have been triggered by outstanding warrants against the car's occupant, Charles William Keplar, for stalking, retaliation and related charges. Allegedly, the man also had made past statements against the police, only adding to the tension.
The driver sped off. At one point, he hit a Pflugerville police car as he fled at top speed, KEYE-TV reported. Spike strips were deployed along Toll Road 130 in an attempt to stop the pursuit.

What began as a peaceful, 1 a.m. nap turned into a harrowing, high-velocity chase that began in Pflugerville within the Travis County boundaries all the way to Lockhart in Caldwell County some 42 miles away.

The suspect remains in custody, facing numerous charges stemming from his evasion. Police haven't yet disclosed what those charges might be.
