Teen Dies In North Austin Motorcycle Accident
Police released details on deadly bike accident from Sunday, revealing Edwin Proenza-Benedit, 18, died at the scene after hitting truck.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Thursday identified the teenage victim of a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred over the weekend.
Edwin Proenza-Benedit, 18, was traveling in the left lane along the 8200 block of Research Boulevard northbound on a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle at a high rate of speed when the driver of a 2004 GMC 2500 truck turned from Jamestown Drive onto the service road. This happened just after 1 p.m. on Dec. 4, police noted.
Unable to avoid contact, the driver of the motorcycle struck the right rear tire of the truck and lost control. Proenza-Benedit was pronounced dead at the scene following the impact.

The deadly motorcycle crash represents the 67th fatal traffic crash in Austin this year, and the 72nd fatality of 2017. At this time in 2016, police noted, there were 71 fatal traffic crashes and 73 traffic fatalities.
