Texas Transportation Officials To Install, Replace 'Wrong Way' Signs For Safety
The effort is part of a broader move to stem the 800 wrong-way crashes that occur statewide every year.
NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Transportation crews are scheduled to install a "Wrong Way" sign at an Interstate 35 exit ramp in an effort to deter drivers from mistakenly entering the highway in the opposite direction.
An existing sign will be replaced and lowered at the exit ramp for I-35 at 32nd Street, officials at the Texas Department of Transportation officials said. The site is located at the southwest corner of the highway and Concordia Avenue near the southbound lower deck exit to 32nd Street.
The event will take place Thursday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m.

The initiative is part of a broader TxDot effort to replace and lower "Wrong Way" and "Do Not Enter" signs at area exit ramps to deter accidents.
"Every year since 2010, about 800 wrong-way crashes have occurred in Texas," officials said in a press release ahead of the event on Tuesday morning. "Many of these incidents happen in the evening/overnight hours and involve impaired drivers. The standard height for signs is seven feet; however, the lowered signs will be mounted at three feet. This effort is expected to reduce the number of wrong-way crashes."
