Texas Transportation Officials To Launch $124.2M I-35 Work

A Jan. 24 groundbreaking will mark the beginning of improvements project along I-35 from Rundberg Lane to U.S. 290 East.

AUSTIN, TX — A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled next week to mark the beginning of work on a portion of Interstate 35, officials announced Friday.

Local civic leaders and elected officials are scheduled to join Texas Department of Transportation representatives for the ceremony on improvements to the I-35 from Rundberg Lane to U.S. 290 East project. Speakers will include TxDot Commission Chairman J. Bruce Bugg, Jr., State Rep. Celia Israel and Travis County Commissioner Jeff Travillion.

The 10 a.m. event is scheduled on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at TxDOT Austin District Headquarters, 7901 N I-35.

The groundbreaking ceremony officially marks the start of construction for the project. The project includes the addition of three new flyovers at US 183, along with mainlane and frontage road reconstruction.

TxDot officials described the project's scope: "The $124.2 million project not only improves connectivity between I-35 and US 183 but also reconstructs the St. Johns Avenue bridge, including U-turns on both sides, intersection bypass lanes in both directions, extended entrance/exit lanes, and ramp and shoulder improvements."
