Toddler Dies After Being Hit By Car In North Austin Wal-Mart Parking Lot

Police say the boy, not quite two years old, may have run in front of a moving vehicle and the driver was unable to avoid hitting him.

North Austin, TX -- A toddler died at a North Austin Wal-Mart parking lot after being hit by a car Thursday.

Austin-Travis County EMS officials responded to the scene shortly after 8 p.m. in the 12900 block of North Interstate 35 near the intersection with Parmer Lane.

Medics performed CPR on the child at the scene before transporting the young victim to Dell Children's Medical Center. The boy, not yet 2 years old, died at the hospital.

Police later said the driver who hit the child remained at the scene, and speed was unlikely to have contributed. The boy may have run in front of the moving vehicle, police noted.
