Tracking Device Found On Pflugerville Resident's Truck

Luis Madrid never did find out who the man was trying to affix the device to his truck, but shared his story as a warning to others.

PFLUGERVILLE, TX — A Pflugerville man is warning others after finding a tracking device under his vehicle.

Luis Madrid told KVUE he had been alerted to a suspicious person outside his home before checking his surveillance camera footage last month. He later consulted the linked app on his phone before spotting a man in real time trying to surreptitiously affix the tracking device to the homeowner's truck.

Such GPS trackers are used for a variety of reasons — from tracking vehicle fleets by business or as a way for suspicious spouses to spy on their partners. The devices also are sometimes used by the repo man seeking to take the car after non-payment but wishing to avoid a confrontation with the owner.

But Madrid told the news station he fits neither of those criteria. What's more, he told KVUE, he's never missed a payment on the vehicle since he took ownership of it. While the identity and motive of the man who planted the device on his vehicle is a mystery, Madrid said he made his experience public as a way to warn others.

See video of the incident as recorded on Madrid's app.
