Traffic Fatality Results In Closure Of Intersection [UPDATE]

Police ask the driving public to avoid Highway 183 at Pecan Park until they've cleared the scene.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- Police have responded to a traffic fatality at the intersection of Highway 183 and Pecan Park Boulevard, and have closed off that intersection.

Motorists are being urged to avoid the area. Drivers should take alternative routes instead of approaching the intersection.

The Austin Police Department issued this notice via Twitter.

In a subsequent press conference near the accident site, a police spokesman said the collision involved a motorcyle and a vehicle.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two women also were injured and were transported to St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center with critical injuries.

Austin-Travis County EMS officials said the accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. Thursday. The police officer said the crash occurred at the intersection of the U.S. 183 northbound feeder road.

No details were available on who was driving the vehicle or in what direction it was traveling.

Police closed off the northbound service road at Highway 183 to traffic for a few hours as they conducted their investigation.
