UT-Austin, St. Edwards, ACC, Huston-Tillotson Closed Amid Storm

Freezing rain and sleet emerge as the biggest threats making roads treacherous on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

AUSTIN, TX — University of Texas at Austin officials have canceled all classes and events at the college in anticipation of a strong winter storm on Tuesday.

"Due to the threat of severe winter weather, The University of Texas at Austin will be closed, Tuesday, January 16, 2018," officials said in a press advisory. "All classes and events are cancelled. UT shuttle buses will not run."

The university asks that only essential personnel, defined by www.policies.utexas.edu/policies/emergency-leave , to report as requested by their supervisors.

"Weather is often unpredictable and conditions can change rapidly. The university will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated," officials wrote. "As the situation progresses, updates specific to closure and reopening will be available through local media, the university's Facebook page and Twitter feed, the emergency web page (www.utexas.edu/emergency), and by calling the university's emergency information number, 512-232-9999."

The Austin Community College District, St. Edward's University and Huston-Tillotson University also have canceled classes in light of the winter storm and will close all its facilities. The hope is to keep people off roadways, which could make for treacherous driving with ice accumulation.
