UT Austin To Honor Slain Student Throughout May

Sophomore Harrison Brown was fatally stabbed one year ago in broad daylight across from the campus gymnasium.

AUSTIN, TX — The University of Texas at Austin community is celebrating the life of student Harrison Brown one year after he was slain on campus.

Lori Brown, the murdered student's mother, on Tuesday lay a simple bouquet of white roses in front of the campus gymnasium where her son was killed May 1, 2017. The sophomore was stabbed by a fellow student who has since been jailed. The dead student's mother joined numerous friends and family members to honor his brief, yet impactful, life.

“Harrison was such a kind, happy and compassionate individual,” Lori Brown said. “He loved being a Longhorn. He loved this campus. He was so happy here.”

The death of the student rocked the campus last May, about a year after another student, Haruka Weiser, was murdered by a transient youth along a darkened path along a stretch of Waller Creek that runs through campus. Harrison was killed in broad daylight while Weiser was murdered as she walked back to her dorm after a night class by a transient youth who has since been convicted.
