Woman In Her 20s Loses Her Life After Early Morning Crash In North Austin

Neither she nor her passenger were wearing seatbelts, and now police are trying to determine if alcohol played a role.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX -- A woman in her 20s died Saturday morning after driving off the roadway before wrecking along Interstate 35, emergency officials said.

Austin-Travis County EMS medics reported to the scene of the crash shortly before 4 a.m., at the corner of the I-35 northbound service road and Wells Branch Parkway. Via Twitter, EMS officials reported the young woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, an adult male in his 40s, was transported to the hospital with injuries categorized as non-life-threatening ones.

Police later told KVUE-TVthe car the woman was driving drove off the road before going airborne, landing on the other side of the frontage road. Police said neither the driver nor passenger were wearing seatbelts, and now they're trying to determine if alcohol consumption figured as a factor in the crash.
