Woman Killed In North Austin Car Crash Identified

Alma Rose Hernandez=Jaimes, 28, died when her car that was stopped in the middle of the road was struck by another vehicle last month.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — Police on Friday identified victim of a fatal car collision that occurred in the northeast part of the city last month.

Alma Rose Hernandez=Jaimes, 28, died when another car collided with the 2000 Lexus she was driving that had stopped for unknown reasons on the U.S. Highway 290 East Toll entrance ramp without its lights on just before 11 p.m. She had been seen standing on the passengers side of the car with the door open before being struck by a red, 2013 Nissan Altima in the Jan. 30 fatality.

The occupants of the Altima sustained non-life-threatening injuries requiring hospitalization. Hernandez-Jaimes sustained serious injuries to which she succumbed on Feb. 1.

The incident marked Austin’s fifth fatal traffic crash of 2018, resulting in six fatalities this year, according to police. At this time in 2017, there were five fatal traffic crashes and five traffic fatalities, police said.
