Police worked well into the night seeking the suspect, yet it was unknown as of midnight Tuesday whether an arrest had been made. Campus police urged students to be aware of their surroundings and avail themselves of the SureWalk or SureRide programs ensuring safety while reaching one's destination. Campus police also urged students to walk in groups whenever possible.

The stabbing incident undoubtedly heightens anxiety among the Austin community still reeling from the May fatal stabbing of freshman Harrison Brown outside the campus gym that left three others injured. A suspect was quickly apprehended and is now behind bars for the attack.

And in April 2016, freshman Haruka Weiser was killed along a darkened path fronting a portion of Waller Creek that runs through campus by a transient youth, another incident sending chills throughout the community and leading to bolstered SureWalk and SureRide services.

Details as to what may have provoked the attack were not disclosed. Patch will update this story as more information is made available.
