Z'Tejas Eatery In North Austin Closed Following Bankruptcy
Location at 10525 W. Parmer Lane among chain's sites deemed 'under-performing,' but two others in Austin will remain open, officials said.

NORTH AUSTIN, TX — The Z'Tejas Southwestern Grill location in North Austin, in the Avery Ranch area, has closed following the bankruptcy filing of its parent company — the second such reorganization of debts the firm has taken in two years.
The local site to close is at 10525 W. Parmer Lane, company officials confirmed. Three other locations in Arizona also shuttered after having been deemed as being "under-performing," according to a social media posting by the restaurant chain.
“We plan on using this unique opportunity to give our customers what they should expect — a commitment to service, new whole-food based recipes and overall dining experience that has our customers coming back time and again,” Stephen O’Connor, the company’s chief operating officer, said in a prepared statement. “We’re excited about the future of Z’Tejas.”

But fear not, Z'Tejas fans. There are two other locations in Austin, at 9400-A Arboretum Blvd. in the Arboretum area and 1110 W. Sixth St. near downtown. The reprieve from closure of that pair of eateries is in line with a new corporate strategy, according to company officials.
“We have begun implementing a plan to strengthen our company and focus on our strong locations in Arizona and Austin,” the Facebook post said, in part. “We are excited about our future in those markets and plan on growing in both Arizona and Austin as we continue to serve all of you, our loyal guests, in our existing locations.”

Z’Tejas was founded in Austin in 1989, before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2015. Emerging from bankruptcy, the chain was purchased by Cornbread Ventures, a group consisting of general partners from the Austin-based Iron Cactus restaurant chain and Stone Group, a commercial real estate investment firm also based in Austin.
