BL3S squad honors Andres Martinez with annual tournament (yourbasin.com) — An Odessa nonprofit, BL3S Squad, is honoring local athlete Andres Martinez with its fourth annual ragball tournament at the UTPB Softball Complex on Saturday, Sept. 19. The event will feature up to 20 teams, home run derbies, food, raffles, and Odessa Mayor Cal Hendrick throwing the first pitch, while raising funds to support families affected by suicide and offering peer support resources.
3. Gov. Abbott awards fallen Odessa DPS Trooper with Star of Texas Award (firstalert7.com) — An Odessa-based DPS trooper killed in the line of duty has been posthumously honored with the Star of Texas Award, presented by Governor Greg Abbott in Austin. The family of Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez accepted the award, adding to earlier recognition that renamed Highway 302 near Notrees as a memorial in his honor, underscoring his sacrifice for the Odessa community.
4. OPD detectives seize nearly 8 pounds of meth (oaoa.com) — Odessa police seized nearly eight pounds of meth plus other drugs and weapons after stopping and later searching a local man's vehicle and home, leading to multiple felony charges and high bail.
