Odessa Regional Medical Center to host butterfly release for families who lost a child (firstalert7.com) — Odessa families who've lost a child are invited Saturday morning to a free butterfly release at Progressive Park, in front of Odessa Regional Medical Center's West Campus. Running from 10 a.m. to noon, the long-running event offers a hopeful, supportive space for remembrance and is open to anyone in the community who wants to honor a child's memory.
   

2. BL3S squad honors Andres Martinez with annual tournament (yourbasin.com) — An Odessa nonprofit, BL3S Squad, is honoring local athlete Andres Martinez with its fourth annual ragball tournament at the UTPB Softball Complex on Saturday, Sept. 19. The event will feature up to 20 teams, home run derbies, food, raffles, and Odessa Mayor Cal Hendrick throwing the first pitch, while raising funds to support families affected by suicide and offering peer support resources.
   

3. Gov. Abbott awards fallen Odessa DPS Trooper with Star of Texas Award (firstalert7.com) — An Odessa-based DPS trooper killed in the line of duty has been posthumously honored with the Star of Texas Award, presented by Governor Greg Abbott in Austin. The family of Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez accepted the award, adding to earlier recognition that renamed Highway 302 near Notrees as a memorial in his honor, underscoring his sacrifice for the Odessa community.
   

4. OPD detectives seize nearly 8 pounds of meth (oaoa.com) — Odessa police seized nearly eight pounds of meth plus other drugs and weapons after stopping and later searching a local man's vehicle and home, leading to multiple felony charges and high bail. The story also notes several other recent Odessa drug arrests, underscoring ongoing enforcement against local trafficking that could impact neighborhood safety.
   

5. Permian tops Abilene High in Eagle's final non-district game, 41-29 (bigcountryhomepage.com) — Odessa Permian's Panthers went on the road to Abilene and came home with a 41–29 win in the Eagles' final non-district game. Permian jumped out early, answered multiple Abilene rallies, and held on through a tense fourth quarter, giving Odessa fans plenty to cheer about as district play approaches.
