12,000 In Dickinson Area Left In The Dark

Equipment failure at power station leaves residents in Dickinson and surrounding communities in the dark, for nearly 12 hours.

DICKINSON, TX — As many as 12,000 residents were without power Monday night due to an equipment malfunction at a Texas-New Mexico Power substation.

The equipment failure knocked out the power at about 5:30 p.m., and left residents in Dickinson, League City, and Texas City in the dark until about 4 a.m. Tuesday.

According to a KPRC report, the outage affected homes, disrupted traffic signals leaving drivers to be more cautious than usual on the roadways.

Meanwhile, officials with Texas-New Mexico Power told the Houston Chronicle that they were unsure of where the malfunction happened, but crews were working to restore power.

Officials said the power would be fully restored between 10 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the very latests.
