Alvin ISD Prepares To Open Two New Campuses For 2017-2018 School Year

Alvin ISD is seeing growth brough with the development of several new communities in the area.

ALVIN, TX — The explosive growth in the Greater Houston area is spurring the need for more schools in Alvin ISD.

Alvin ISD is one of the fastest growing school districts in the Houston area with more than 23,000 students enrolled, and has seen steady growth with at least 1,000 new students coming into the district each year since since 2012.

At the start of the 2016 school year, district officials said the number of students increased by 1,500 students from the previous year.

To meet the demand of providing a quality basic education for students in Alvin ISD, district leaders are eagerly anticipating the opening of two new elementary school for the 2017-18 school year, and a new junior high in 2018.

In November 2015, voters in the district approved a $245 million bond to build three new elementary schools, two middle schools, a new career and technology center, a new transportation center, a central district stadium as well as upgrades to the Alvin High School auditorium and Municipal stadium.

Some of those campuses are in various stages of construction or development including:

  • Shirley Dill Brothers Elementary: $17.5 milion
  • Pamona Elementary: $16.3 million
  • Bob and Betty Nelson Elementary:
  • Ron McNair Junior High No. 7: $29.1 million.
  • The JB Hensler Career and Technical Center

The growth is being fed through the development of Meridiana community, which when completed will have more than 5,000 homes, and the planned Pamona community that will have more than 1,800 homes when completed.
