Dickinson Teacher Accused Of improper Relationship Turns Himself In

Justin Devera is accused of having an improper relationship with a 17-year old student, a second degree felony

DICKINSON, TX -- A former Dickinson High School teacher who resigned last week after allegations arose that he was involved in a relationship with a 17-year old student, turned himself in to police Tuesday morning.

Justin Michael Devera, 32, surrendered to the League City Police and was charged with improper relationship between a student/educator.

School district officials in Dickinson said the allegations of an improper relationship surfaced last week, and that Devera was placed on administrative leave on April 12.

The investigation was turned over to the League City Police, and on April 17, Devera resigned his position with the school district.

School district officials did not identify the student or indicate how the relationship lasted.

Improper relationship between a student/educator is a second degree felony, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
