A weeklong manhunt for his killer ensued, with a reward of $65,000 offered for the killer’s arrest and conviction.
A week after his murder, law enforcement officials revealed that William Kenny, 64, a man with a 5-year grievance against law enforcement officials, killed Greenwood, and committed suicide the next morning with the same gun.

Meanwhile, officials said the push to rename the courthouse has been ongoing since 2014, and according to Don Coffey, justice of the peace at the courthouse in Baytown, said over that time there were no names they could consider for the new name.
"This is right thing to do…,” Coffey told the Houston Chronicle. “To honor his 30 years of service to the county and citizens of Harris County, and to remind people of where his career ended."
Coffey and Precinct 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton plan to formally ask Harris County Precinct 2 Commissioner Jack Morman to support the effort.
Morman is expected to present the proposal to the rest of the Harris County Commissioners Court at a meeting scheduled for later this month.
