Houston Celebrates a Decade of Freedom at the Independence Day 8K!

Kick off your July 4th festivities early with this star-spangled race, now in its 10th year, featuring an 8K, 5K, and family 1K.

Houston, get ready to run, walk and sparkle for freedom! The Independence Day 8K is turning 10. That’s a whole decade of sweat, smiles and star-spangled memories. Join Houston Running Company (HRC) on Saturday, June 27, at Meyerland Plaza (8650 Endicott Lane) for a pre-July 4th celebration like no other. This sixth event in HRC’s year-long Holiday Series is the perfect chance to get your patriotic sneakers on and make a dash for liberty!

Race Schedule & Location:

The 8K and 5K start at 7 a.m., with routes designed for seasoned runners, beginners and even strollers full of little firecrackers. Awards will follow at 8:45 a.m., and the Kids & Family 1K begins at 9 a.m. Free parking is available at the corner of Endicott Lane and Jackwood Street.

“We’ve been lighting up the streets for freedom for 10 amazing years!” said HRC Co-Founder Randi Schooley. “This event isn’t just a workout – it’s a celebration of liberty, community and giving back. Each step supports three incredible local charities while creating memories that will last another 10 years and beyond!”

Charity beneficiaries include Ainsley’s Angels, Asher House Animal Sanctuary and LifeGift Organ Donation, all longtime partners of the HRC Foundation. As the philanthropic arm of Houston Running Company, the HRC Foundation is dedicated to empowering runners and walkers through endurance events that promote physical well-being, foster personal and community growth and cultivate an inclusive, supportive environment.

Participant Experience:

Participants receive a finisher medal and unisex t-shirt, and chip timing ensures every stride counts. Awards will be presented to top overall and Masters (age 40+) finishers, as well as first-place age group winners. After the race, enjoy food, music, drinks and family fun – whether you’re running, walking, volunteering or cheering from the sidelines.
