La Porte Firefighter Crashes Pickup Into Side Of Neighbor’s Home
Firefighter allegedly told first responders at the scene that he was responding to a call: Report

LA PORTE, TX — A La Porte Firefighter is behind bars after he crashed his pickup into the side of a neighbor’s home Tuesday night.
The crash happened at about 10:45 p.m., in the 500 block of Shady Lane.
Witnesses told police that Blake Anthony Stevens, 31, was speeding through the neighborhood, when he jumped a ditch, plowed through a fence and crashed into the side of the house where a child’s bedroom was located, KPRC reported.

The child, who was not injured, was sleeping in another room with a sibling at the time of the crash.
The pickup plowed through the house, and stopped just a few feet from the child’s bunk bed, KHOU reported.

Stevens reportedly told first responders he was responding to a call at the time of the accident, KTRK reported.
Neighbors said Stevens regularly drives too fast through the neighborhood and tells them he is responding to fire calls.
Meanwhile, Stevens, who was in uniform at the time of the accident, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, and unlawfully carrying a handgun.
Stevens has been suspended by the La Porte Fire Department, pending the investigation's outcome.
His bond has not been set.
