Man Arrested After Killing His Wife in Front of Police
Police: Elva Gonzalez tried to obtain a restraining order against her husband the day before she was murdered.

BAYTOWN, TX -- A 39-year old an is in police custody after they say he gunned down his estranged wife in from of them Sunday night.
Baytown Police were responding to a call about an intruder in the 1900 block of Mississippi Street around 5:45 p.m.
When police arrived a short time later, they said El Rey Gonzalez, chased Elva Gonzalez, 41, into the front lawn and in front of several police officers, pulled out a gun and shot her multiple times.

Police fired their weapons and grazed El Rey Gonzalez.
He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released into police custody.

The couple’s two children, ages 21 and 16, were in the home at the time, and called police when their father arrived.
El Rey Gonzalez allegedly has a lengthy criminal past, and is reportedly a registered sex offender.
The shooting happened the day after Elva Gonzalez tried to file a restraining order against her husband, Baytown Police spokesman Lt. Steve Dorris told KTRK.
Neighbors told police the couple has been having serious marital issues for a while.
He is being held at the Baytown Municipal Jail, and is expected to be transferred to the Harris County Jail, where he will appear before a judge on Monday.
