Dallas PULSE, Wise DFW and Powerade Introduce Girls to Careers in Sports

Forty girls from Girls Inc. of Tarrant County and Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas met with women working in professional sports during an interactive speed mentoring program focused on confidence, leadership and career opportunities throughout the sports industry.

Hosted by the Dallas PULSE in partnership with Women in Sports and Events (WISE) DFW, PULSE of a Champion—Fueled by Powerade gave participants an opportunity to speak directly with women representing several professional disciplines and career stages.

By bringing the stories and experiences of women working in professional sports directly to Girls Inc. participants, we can help girls discover the wide range of careers connected to the industry.”

The girls rotated through small-group mentoring sessions designed to support the Girls Inc. mission of inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold. Through conversations about career possibilities, leadership and overcoming challenges, mentors encouraged participants to build the confidence and skills needed to pursue their goals. Mentors also shared how adopting a “PULSE of a Champion” mindset can help them persevere and succeed in sports, school and life.

“Seeing the girls engage with each of the mentors reinforced why programs like this matter,” said Katrina Streiner, Vice President of Marketing for Dallas PULSE. “We wanted them to leave knowing there is a place for them in sports, whether their future is on the court, behind the scenes, or in the front office. A champion’s mindset is built through confidence, preparation and perseverance, and those qualities can help them succeed wherever they go.”

Angela Lewis, president of WISE DFW, led the mentoring sessions with participating mentors that included:

• Sami Jacobs, coordinator of club and community sales and game-day operations for Dallas PULSE
• Anissa Jacks, manager of social media for Dallas PULSE
• Angela Lewis, president of WISE DFW
• Katrina Streiner, vice president of marketing and creative for Dallas PULSE

Before the end of the event, participants had a closing huddle to share lessons and observations from the sessions. They also had an opportunity to take photographs with the Dallas PULSE Major League Volleyball Championship trophy. Dallas PULSE won the league championship in May during the organization’s inaugural season.
