Local Senior Living Community Hosts Graffiti Art Festival

March 20, 2023 (Plano, TX) - Juniper Communities, a leader of senior living including assisted living and memory care facilities, Spring Creek location recently hosted a graffiti art festival.

Residents at Juniper Village at Spring Creek teamed up with graffiti artists from the Plano area to give a more in-depth look to the street-style art on Saturday, March 11. Artists Nazareth Littlefield and Drew Mane, of TMP, were called upon to share their graffiti skills with the senior living community. Littlefield taught a ‘Graffiti 101’-type class where he showed his ‘students’ how to create a graffiti piece from start to finish. Mane spray painted a beautiful mural that read JUNIPER in a traditional graffiti-like font. Instead of a dot on top of the I, he chose a big red heart. Mane stated that he “had a great time” with the seniors and it “brought back lots of memories” of his grandparents and older neighbors that he grew up around that have since passed on.

Dating all the way back to the ancient days of Egypt, Greece and the Roman Empire, graffiti has been around for centuries. It often has negative connotations associated with vandalism, as it can be deemed illegal, and is usually done without permission in public places. However, more municipalities across the country are calling on graffiti artists to create large murals in empty spaces around towns and cities in order to beautify dull, unnoticed areas. Plano is one of those cities.

The Graffiti Festival at Juniper Village at Spring Creek dismissed the notion that graffiti is a bad thing. Events like these are much needed, and foster conversations that build connections amongst people of all ages.
