ROUND ROCK, TX — Up to 100 people fell ill after attending a Round Rock High School baseball team banquet this week, health officials confirmed.

Williamson County and Cities Health District officials confirmed they were investigating the cause of the gastrointestinal illness that affected between 75 to 100 people after a catered banquet event, KXAN reported. Banquet attendees at The Milestone event center were served tacos, cakes and cookies catered by La Margarita of Round Rock, according to the report.

Among those falling ill was roughly half of the baseball team, including a dozen varsity players and 10-12 junior varsity players, according to the report. The illness comes right before the team's playoff game at Dell Diamond, scheduled for Thursday.

Parents told the news station their children experienced vomiting and severe stomach pain as a result. Some were hospitalized, the parents said.

The incident comes at a time of heightened fear over an E. coli outbreak stemming from romaine lettuce in Yuma, Ariz. that has sickened dozens across a wide swath. On Wednesday, officials confirmed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the first fatality blamed on the outbreak occurred in California.
